More Daydreaming

It's Christmas in August! Well, at least the part where I get stuff. My double jogger arrived Friday and I am so excited. It has a great rain cover too, something I've always wanted. I used  to worry about the weather here, and getting stranded somewhere with the little guy... worries all gone!

Lots of walking, and we just finished parent-tot swim lessons, but running is not working so well, with the new baby expected in a few (hopefully short) weeks. I spend a lot of time daydreaming. These may be unrealistic goals for me, but I'm hoping to do the following.

18 Sept - Jog 1 mile

25 Sept - Jog 2 miles

2 Oct - Jog 3 miles

8 Oct - 5k event - http://www.mcdvcouncil.org/

Hopefully I'll do a little more preparation for the 5k, but I'll be thrilled if I can do that much with a little tiny baby around. :o)

My next goal is the 10k at next year's Zena Run in February. Great and inexpensive event I did this year. Pretty hilly course. Now, I don't want to just complete the 10k, but I hope I can complete a 12 week training plan beforehand, as well as a few weeks of the prescribed base weeks. I'll need to take a week or 2 off when our family travels in December, and plan accordingly.

5 Feb 2012 - 10k Zena Run - http://www.wvroadrunners.org/zena/

And THEN, I need to work on my time and running two 5ks with a half hour break in between. I'm still promising my husband I will do the running legs of the HOTV duathlon on Memorial Day 2012 at an 8 minute/mile pace. He will do the biking.

Ok, that's all probably too ambitious for a nursing mommy, who refuses to be away from her babies for very long, but I sure like to dream about it. And who knows, maybe with my supportive family, I'll be able to pull it off. :o)

Running After Baby

Ok, still daydreaming about running hard and fast again. There's a 5k at Minto Brown on October 8th. That's. 32 days after the due date. So I'll be super sleep deprived, and I'll need a buddy to come along and hold the baby so he or she can be near me and nurse if hungry. And hope it works with naps ... ok its unlikely that will all come together, but I do better with this daydreaming and then letting it go if need be. :o) Not to mention it's unlikely that I'll have any post birth practice runs in!

Gator Grinder

Completed my first organized event on May 7th! 500 yd swim, 11.8 mile hilly bike, 5k run... errr some walking due to a little passenger in my tummy. I had plenty of energy to run faster and was well prepared, had to swallow my pride and walk some for the baby.  The half day was spent away from mommy duties .. Daddy took over so I could enjoy the food and awards afterward. Speaking of which, I got the 3rd place ribbon in my age group ... out of 3 - lol! 2:02. So much fun, so hooked, looking forward to my next triathlon, which will be Summer 2012 at the earliest with this new baby coming.

So, anticipating my triathlon future, I'm daydreaming about what I can do when. I hope to continue jog/walking throughout this pregnancy. Biking and swimming will be ocassional and recreational for the next year of my life, and probably longer. It's just the season for focussing on my little guys, and fitting in runs when I can. Biking and swimming seem to involve a little too much overhead for our family right now.

So running goals...
Memorial Day 2012 (I know, over a year away) Andrew agreed to be my relay partner in a duathlon. He will bike, and I will run both 5ks. I've agreed to run an 8 minute mile pace for both legs, and he agreed to make sure we win! That's a big challenge for me... Once in my life, this past fall, I ran a single mile in 8 minutes. My 5k PR was around a 9 minute pace... so I will need to train hard to do two 5ks at and 8 min pace! Hopefully Sunday football runs with the new baby and the toddler will work out this fall. If I can get just one other day in each week to work on speed, I think I can pull it off. Hopefully by Spring 2012, I'll have enough independence to get away for an organized run event to test my skills. In the mean time, I just need to get out as often as possible to keep my body in good working order.

No Strenuous Activity

Ah! No! Doctor's orders (well midwife's orders)...

While my midwife strongly encourages such activity during a normal healthy pregnancy, mine is not in the normal category. I have been having some complications, and although everyone is optimistic, I've still been given the above orders for now. Specifically gentle swimming and biking is ok, but the closest I can get to running is brisk walking.
