Big Goal
Complete an Olympic distance triathlon in 4 hours (Summer 2011)
Smaller Goals
Complete the 10k at Cascade Half in 60 minutes. (Mid January)
Complete a sprint triathlon in 2 hours. (If I can register, Beaver Freezer in Early April)
January-March Training Goals
Run 2 times each week (already doing this, 10k Sundays, speed games another day, often another day too)
Bike 2-3 times each week (already biking once per week with one-year-old on back to get somewhere)
Swim 2 times each week (not swimming at all)
I want a lot of things that cost money, but don't want to spend the money before I prove to myself that I will use them.
I want a swim coach (of some sort) for a few sessions to improve my form. First I must prove that I will get to a pool regularly. Starting the week after next, I will go to the pool early Tuesday mornings, swim for at least 30 minutes, and get home by 7am so my husband can get ready for work without having to worry about our one-year-old. If I do this for 3 weeks in a row, then I'll look into getting some help for my form.
I want a bike trainer (stand for my mountain bike to use indoors), so that I can train at home on bad weather days, or while my son is napping. To prove that I would actually use this at nap time, I must play DDR (Dance Dance Revolution on our Xbox!) 2 times per week, for 30 minutes each. If I do this for 3 weeks, then I can shop for a trainer.
I want a road bike so I can ride faster! If I'm still enthusiastic and sticking with the training, then I can get a bike for my birthday in mid-February.
Training Goals 14 November - 20 November
Sun run 10k

Tue DDR 30 min
Wed run at naptime

Progress and Hopes So Far
Triathlon
One morning, a couple months ago (mid-September?) I did my own little Olympic distance triathlon. I started swimming at the Y at 5:30/6am ( 50 minutes), drove home, biked (about 2:30), and jogged/walked (about 1:30). I got home at 11am. So it took me around 5 hours! At that point, I wasn't even sure if I could complete a 10k without walking. Since then, I've built up my running, and have done 4 or 5 10ks on flat courses (with the little guy in the jogger!). Could I run it without walking after the swimming and the biking?
Running
I would like to get to a track more often so I can time myself running, even if it's with my little guy in the jogging stroller. I'd like to work on keeping an 8-minute-mile pace for longer. In August I did a mile in 8:03. I few weeks ago I had a 5k PR of 28:30. :o)
I'd like to do my 10k in January in 6o minutes. Hopefully it's a flat course.
Swimming
I swam another day, and did 1500m in 45 minutes. I use mostly breast stroke. I'd like to be able to do the whole distance freestyle.
Biking
Did the distance a few times in spring 2010 with father-in-law. We paced 10mph. (Well, faster without breaks, but we always took breaks. Once I timed us between mile markers when we were really cruising, and we were at 14 mph)
I'd like to get down to 40k in 2 hours on my mountain bike. (12.5 mph pace?)
How fast could I go on a road bike?
I'm anxious to make biking part of my routine. I heard it helps with running, and it would be nice to be able to work on it in the living room!
I'm super-excited to practice transitions in the spring, hopefully for the Beaver Freezer. Last year they said registration filled up in 2 hours, so I hope I can register!
This time last year, with our little baby, I would not have guessed I'd have enough sleep, energy, or time to begin working toward a triathlon. I'm very please with our family and how they help me.
